Mia and the Moon

Sisters, Laura (25) and Mary-Anne (23) first began singing together as toddlers and now combine an early folk festival influence with urban styles and a contemporary repertoire. Performing a mixture of covers and original material, Mary-Anne’s own songs ‘Emotionless’ and ‘Scenario’ were remixed by Dutch Producer Marco V in 2008, storming the top ten dance chart on Radio1 and placing her on the National radar as ‘one to watch’.

The early ‘acoustic collection’ album from which the previous tracks were taken was described by BBC Introducing as “Full of songs that light up your day”, and “Angelic” by Radio Cardiff whilst being practised in belting live performance and close harmony ensured Mary-Anne was the producers favourite choice for the Michael Jackson ‘History’ Theatre Production backing singer role. Mary-Anne pre recorded all-of-the female backing parts for the International Tour and flew out to Guest Feature live in South Africa in 2010.

Following more of a Jazz and Blues track has led Laura to singing onboard Cruise Ships and in Hotels around the world since 2006, more recently flying out to perform at The New Orleans Jazz Festival and front the house band at the Columbia 7Seas music venue in Cyprus. 2012 saw the two sisters deciding to join forces once more to audition for the UK XFactor. Following Mel B's description of the girl’s performance of Mary Mary ‘Shackles’ as “Mesmerising”, four unanimous ‘yes’s’ sent Mia and the moon straight through to bootcamp.

Website, Youtube channel and Fan pages have all received over 30,000 hits since, with a dedicated fan base growing; all eager to hear the new EP out in October 2012.

Two gospel voices, acoustic guitar and the optional feature of percussion or rap make-up, the usual Mia and the moon line up and Laura and Mary-Anne are becoming known for their fresh stripped back twists on hits from Beyonce, Emeli Sande, Florence + the Machine and Bruno Marz to the classics of Candi Staton, Shirley Basset and Stevie Wonder.
